What is Energy Star?

Our view is - anyone can produce Green projects with an unlimited budget; however, to produce a quality end-product such as ‘The Barn’ with referenced final project costs is noteworthy.  Hence - The Barn’s focus is to promote cost-effective, space-saving, energy-efficient, Green alternative homes for the ‘Blue-Collar-Person’.

from conventional single-family homes that
they are both innovative and affordable. 

This genuinely unique design incorporates post-frame foundation / exterior wall systems along with the open floor plan, thereby using 50% less building materials.  Barn-Livin’ a.k.a. The Barn compliments energy efficient electrical-mechanical systems, incorporates ‘Green’ building methodologies, and utilizes a large percentage of locally produced building materials; all with final project cost savings of 30% or more compared to conventional construction costs. 

With rising costs of energy, transportation, property taxes, construction materials, and labor, Barn-Livin’s uniqueness offers a practical alternative to conventional stick-built or manufactured homes for primary or second-home options, making The Barn perfect for retirement cottages / vacation homes.  What makes this concept ‘real’ is it offers an alternative home option for ‘Blue-Collar-People’ whom appreciate ‘Green’ concepts. 
 
Currently numerous Municipalities have a large number of older mobile homes within their tax base.  Two big advantages of replacing mobile homes with this type of alternative design is, (1) mobile homes depreciate in tax assessment while this type of design appreciates, and (2) the high energy efficiencies associated with this type of design.  Also to be noted, Barn-Livin’s 2005 Green Project took 18-weeks from start (Site Development) to finish (Certificate of Occupancy).  This is less time than it takes most manufactured homes to be produced and delivered to the Homeowner’s site!  Therefore, Municipalities have the rare opportunity to set precedence by promoting this distinctive design as an alternative to replacing deteriorated mobile homes with new mobile homes.
